A Weight Room Fitting for the Hurricanes
Gus Felder joined the University of Miami in January, 2016. Less than one year later, the director of strength and conditioning oversaw a major overhaul of the Hecht Center weight room.

Felder’s choice of Hammer Strength wasn’t a surprise considering his long history with the performance strength training equipment.
“We used Hammer Strength equipment at Penn State University when I was a student-athlete,” said Felder. “The first room I put together at Cheyney University was a Hammer Strength deal. I look at Hammer Strength with a sense of loyalty. Hammer Strength communicated well. The equipment arrived on time, and some of it arrived before hand, which is awesome. The whole process was an awesome experience. The relationships they have, being as large as they are now, they still make it a personal relationship when dealing with coaches.”
The result of the upgrade is an impressive facility that is fitting for a traditional college football powerhouse.
“The process (of building a weight room) was pretty simple. You make a plan, you go after what you want, and you know what you want, added Felder. You make phone calls and make it happen. It sounds easy, but (it’s about) not just making it important to you but important to the administrators and coaches to come up with the funds you need to put together a room like this.”
